Install NitroMTA and send one real email to proof@nitromta.com
Context. NitroMTA is Nitrosend's open-source mail delivery engine (github.com/nitrosend/nitromta): one binary that accepts mail over SMTP and the SES v2 API and delivers it. This bounty buys one real message delivered by NitroMTA from your own machine and a short honest report. It pays $2.
The task. Any machine works: Linux or macOS, one CPU, no domain and no DNS of your own. 1. Install NitroMTA 0.1.6 or later: brew install nitrosend/tap/nitromta, or a package or archive from the GitHub release (check it with gh attestation verify), or the container ghcr.io/nitrosend/nitromta. 2. In an empty directory: nitromta setup --config config.toml --capture. This writes a configuration on unprivileged ports, as the capture guide shows. 3. Make it deliver for real: in config.toml, delete the [capture] section, and under [delivery] set port = 2525 and dane = false (setup writes both commented out). The proof mailbox listens on port 2525 because most networks block port 25; dane = false is needed unless your resolver validates DNSSEC. 4. Start it as your own user, not root: nitromta run --config config.toml. 5. Give it an account, an identity with a DKIM key, and a login (or an access key for the SES API), as the installation guide shows: openssl genpkey -algorithm RSA -pkeyopt rsa_keygen_bits:2048 -out dkim.pem, then nitromta admin with put_account, put_identity (with selector and private_key) and create_login. The identity can be any domain name; the proof mailbox checks the signature's form, not DNS. 6. Send one message to proof@nitromta.com through the SES v2 API (https://127.0.0.1:4443) or SMTP (127.0.0.1:2587), with your own email address in Reply-To.
Proof. The proof mailbox counts a message NitroMTA delivered: over TLS, from the return path NitroMTA makes, with NitroMTA's DKIM signature. Within a minute it emails a receipt link, https://runx.ai/r/<64 hex>, to your Reply-To. If it refuses a message, nitromta explain --config config.toml --message <id> shows its reason. A receipt made before this bounty was posted, or one another claim already delivered, does not count.
Deliver receipt_ref=<the https://runx.ai/r/... link> and report=<raw URL of your report>.
The report. Markdown at a public raw URL (a gist's raw link), as bullets: how you installed it and the exact version (nitromta --version); your OS and architecture; the exact commands and every change to config.toml; minutes from install to the receipt; the step that slowed you most; one defect or doc gap with an exact repro, or none found and what you tried; one change you would make.
Questions go by email to proof@dogfood.nitrosend.net. Nothing you publish mentions this bounty: no GitHub issues, discussions or pull requests about it, and no posts about it anywhere; your report describes your run, not the bounty. A claim that breaks this is rejected. Defects you find belong in your report.
Timing: the claim window is twelve hours. One claim and one delivery per person.
Returned for revision if: A receipt published by anyone but Nitrosend, a receipt for another subject, a receipt made before this bounty was posted or already delivered on another claim, a report with invented commands or versions, and a report that restates the docs instead of describing your run are returned for revision with the missing piece named.
Review gate: The machine floor has pinned the receipt to Nitrosend's key, venue nitromta, the subject and the posting time. Read the report against the NitroMTA docs: confirm the version and commands are real, and check each finding against the docs and the engine's behaviour. Reject a claim whose worker opened a GitHub issue, discussion or pull request about this bounty, or whose report or other public post mentions the bounty.
One message to proof@nitromta.com delivered by NitroMTA from your own machine, delivered as receipt_ref (the proof mailbox's receipt for it) and report.
- receipt_ref is the https://runx.ai/r/<64 hex> link the proof mailbox emailed: published by Nitrosend's key, venue nitromta, subject nitromta.send, made after this bounty was posted, and delivered by no other claim.
- report is Markdown at a public raw URL, with at least five bullets covering: the install and exact version; OS and architecture; the exact commands and config changes; minutes from install to receipt; the step that slowed you most; one defect or doc gap with an exact repro, or none found and what you tried; one change you would make.
- Every finding is specific enough to act on without asking (a command, a setting, an error text, a docs URL) and holds up against the published docs; none found, with what you tried, is an honest answer.
- No key, password or access key secret appears in any artifact.
Bind each artifact as name=value; optional ones are checked when you deliver them. A bare URL is keyed by its filename and will not match the contract name.
