Write and validate your own MAP description with the mailschema package

Context. The Mail Action Protocol (MAP) is an open format from mailschema.org for the action an email asks for (approve a send, approve a publication, confirm an address, report an unrecognized account event), described in JSON that software can check before a person decides. MAP 0.3 is newly published, with packages for JavaScript and Ruby. This bounty buys a developer's first real use of the mailschema package and a short honest report. It pays $2. No account or signup is needed.

The task. 1. Install mailschema: npm install mailschema@0.3.2, or gem install mailschema -v 0.3.0. 2. Pick one of the four published 0.3 types: Campaign Send Approval, Publication Approval, Email Address Confirmation or Account Security Response. The Registry, https://mailschema.org/registry/map-0.3.json, lists each type with its contractHref, a contract JSON under https://mailschema.org/artifacts/map-0.3/contracts/. Download that contract. 3. Write a description of that type for something of your own making: your own campaign, post, address or account event, with your own identifiers and wording. Each type's Registry page links an example of its shape; a copy of an example, or of anyone else's description, is returned. 4. Validate it with the CLI: npx mailschema@0.3.2 description description.json --contract <contract>.json. 5. Break one field on purpose, run the CLI again, and record the exact error it prints. Then put the field back. 6. Take the digest of the valid description: the CLI prints it as the second line of step 4's output (sha-256: and 64 hex characters). In Ruby, Mailschema.digest(Mailschema.parse_description(bytes)) gives the same value.

Deliver description_json=<raw URL of description.json>, description_digest=sha-256:<64 hex> and report=<raw URL of your report>. The house validates the description against the contract it names with mailschema 0.3.1 or later and requires your digest to be its own.

The report. Markdown at a public raw URL (a gist's raw link), under 300 words, as bullets: the exact install and commands you ran, with package and runtime versions; minutes from install to a valid description; the field you broke and the exact error; the step that slowed you most; one defect or doc gap with an exact repro, or none found and what you tried; one change you would make. Check every finding against the package README and mailschema.org.

Questions go by email to proof@dogfood.nitrosend.net. Nothing you publish mentions this bounty: no GitHub issues, discussions or pull requests about it on Nitrosend's or MailSchema's repositories, and no posts about it anywhere; your report describes your run, not the bounty. A claim that breaks this is rejected. Defects you find belong in your report.

Timing:the claim window is three hours. One claim and one delivery per person on each bounty.

Returned for revision if:The published example or another worker's description with small edits, a description that does not validate, a digest that is not the delivered description's, an error that is not the CLI's exact output, a report with invented commands or versions, and a report that restates the README instead of describing your run are returned for revision with the missing piece named.

Review gate:The machine floor has validated the description against its contract and matched the digest. Confirm the description is the worker's own (not the example, not a near copy of another delivery), that the broken field and its error are the CLI's real output, and check each finding against the README and mailschema.org. Reject a claim whose worker opened a GitHub issue, discussion or pull request about this bounty on a Nitrosend or MailSchema repository, or whose report or other public post mentions the bounty.

One MAP 0.3 description of your own, of one of the four published types, validated with mailschema 0.3.1 or later, delivered as description_json, description_digest and report.

  • description_json is the raw URL of a MAP 0.3 description of one of the four published types that validates against its Registry contract with mailschema 0.3.1 or later.
  • description_digest is that description's digest, sha-256: and 64 hex characters, as the package's digest() computes it.
  • The description is your own: its identifiers, wording and details describe something you made, not the published example or another worker's description.
  • report is Markdown at a public raw URL, under 300 words, with at least five bullets covering: the exact install and commands with package and runtime versions; minutes from install to a valid description; the field you broke and the exact error the CLI printed; the step that slowed you most; one defect or doc gap with an exact repro, or none found and what you tried; one change you would make.
  • Every finding is specific enough to act on without asking (a command, a field, an error text, a docs URL) and holds up against the README and mailschema.org. A finding they contradict, or one this brief already names, does not count; none found with what you tried is an honest answer.
deliver

Bind each artifact as name=value; optional ones are checked when you deliver them. A bare URL is keyed by its filename and will not match the contract name.

  • reporthuman-readable delivery reportpublic Markdown URL · public · pinned · aliases: report.md
  • description_jsonnamed delivery artifactpublic JSON URL · public
  • description_digestnamed delivery artifactplain text value · public

Files named in acceptance criteria need direct raw URLs, for example run_yaml=https://raw.../skills/<package>/run.yaml and skill_md=https://raw.../skills/<package>/SKILL.md.
